LET KIDS BE KIDS

The Issue

TO WHOM IT CONCERN,

I hate to bother you with this matter knowing you're busy with other crisis happening in DE. I reside in Smyrna DE, 19977. I'm a single parent who worked Monday-Sunday 7 days a week, at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia & Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, for two years straight, so that I could moved out here to Delaware and provide my son a safe, fun good life I didn't have as a child growing up in the streets of South Philadelphia.

My nine year old son Reemo has a basketball court that he plays on along with his friends ages from 9-12 years old. When I first moved in our development in 2013 I tried having my neighbors to help with a petition for "Child at Play" "20 MILES Speed Limit" signs placed in our development. No one would help with the petition, but yet some of the neighbors join together in wanting to REMOVE a nine year old boy, basketball court. I am so disturb by this and have to admit very angry. They are children, innocent children who enjoys playing a friendly game of basketball. In these times it is so hard to keep our young children pro active. Majority of times our youth is stuck in the house playing video games, on the PC all day and not wanting to go outside and play.

My son is very respectful, well mannered, loved by everyone and at the Smyrna Elementary School where he attend the 4th grade. He is so considerate of others, kind and generous always giving to the point he would give until we are cleaned out, LOL.

Unfortunately my ex-husband, son father was killed 08/2016 and this is a difficult time for my son and I both. Basketball helps him copes with his fathers killing and helps me by watching the children play knowing I made the right decision moving my son out here to DE. I enjoy watching them having fun and feel good knowing their playing in what supposed to be a safe environment. This is why us city folks move to Delaware so that our children can run somewhat freely without us having to worry as much. Now being a residence of Delaware my son is told that he can't play basketball with neighbors threatining a nine year old with calling the cops as if he is Commiting a CRIME! Just SAD!

My argument is that why we can't have SIGNS put up for drivers to be AWARE of our children playing and have Speed Limit signs place so that the Worthignton Residence could stop SPEEDING through our development which is supposed to be a CHILD FRIENDLY/FAMILY environment.

Please is there anyway you can help me with this. These past two days I came home to sad children on my lawn wanting to play ball and I had to tell them they had to take a break for a while. These children don't understand why, I myself don't understand how this could happen. This is so unfair, they are not bothering anyone. They could be getting into mischief but instead they're being active in a positive way. Just because people are such in rush, not wanting to stop, give the children a chance to stop and grab the ball. They rather have the BB court REMOVED so they may continue speeding through our development as if its the highway.

Can we have "Child at Play" signs put up and let our children continue to play and be kids while helping them stay safe.

Let's NOT take their fun activity away.

Those who signs this petition will help me save my son basketball court.
