There are some new signs up on Plank Road identifying the new reduced speed zone of 45 mph for the portion of Plank just south of Moose Range Road which includes 6 houses/businesses. There are also some additional signs by the subdivisions at Devine Way and Gerry Lane that advise people to slow down to 45mph in a Residential District. We will continue to work towards an consistent, enforceable 45 mph speed zone on the stretch of Plank east of Moose Range to beyond the S-curve east of Lukens Rd as our petition states. Citizens for a Safer Plank Road has serious concerns that the speed limit changing 8 times along the stretch Plank Road from the school zone by North Grove Elementary to Lukens Road will be lead to erratic speeds and passing which has the potential for more accidents.
We will also continue to push for the no extended passing zone along this stretch. We view this as just as, if not more, important to improving safety on Plank. Just this week, a school bus with children going to school was passed on the left as it was turning left into our subdivision at Gerry Lane. Thankfully the bus driver's vigilance prevented what could have been yet another tragedy on Plank Rd. Most of the neighbors in that subdivision have had the same frightening experience without getting a hit, some have not been so lucky. This is why we need the no passing zone now!
We are approaching 2400 signatures on the petition! Thanks so much for continuing to stayed tuned in and supporting these changes by sharing the petition, calling dangerous incidences of passing and speeding on Plank to the sheriff's department and contacting our county officials with your concerns. Together we can get this done!
