Defending Our Diné Hataałiis

Defending Our Diné Hataałiis
The Issue
On May 29, 2025, during a church event in Gallup, New Mexico, a deeply offensive and disrespectful portrayal of Diné (Navajo) ceremony emerged, it mocked sacred practices, medicine men (Hataałii), and our spiritual ways under the guise of entertainment.
This was not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of cultural and spiritual harm perpetuated by Christian Fellowship Ministries whose churches operate under names such as The Door, The Potter’s House, Victory Chapel, and others across Indigenous communities.
This petition calls for a thorough review of Christian Fellowship Ministries’ presence on the Navajo Nation and other tribal lands. Their repeated actions of disrespecting our beliefs, misrepresenting our ways of life, and undermining our spiritual sovereignty have caused deep harm in our communities. We are urging tribal leadership to reconsider the role of such institutions on Indigenous land and to prioritize the protection of our cultural and spiritual practices.
By signing this petition, you are standing with us to reject the continued desecration of indigenous ceremony and spirituality, protect the rights of Indigenous peoples to practice and preserve their traditions, and demand accountability and removal of harmful religious institutions from indigenous communities.
Let us honor our traditional ways and defend what is sacred.
There is no place for spiritual colonization on sovereign land.
