Our community faces a development challenge: a proposed apartment complex on Double Branch Road and Memorial Highway in Tampa, FL. This project (Hillsborough County Application # MM 24-0397) poses significant risks to the environment, local traffic, and the already-strained stormwater drainage system.

Wetlands serve as natural flood defenses by absorbing excess rainwater, reducing flood risks, and acting as water purifiers. Over a third of U.S. species depend on these vital ecosystems (National Wildlife Federation). This construction threatens to destroy these critical habitats.

The project also endangers our historic trees, which have stood for generations as part of our community’s heritage. Losing them would be an irreversible loss to our area's character.

We urge the county to prioritize sustainable development and explore alternatives that protect our environment. The cost of losing our natural resources for an apartment complex is too high.
