Defend North Finchley — Say NO to Overdevelopment by Regal London
The Issue
For Our Homes, Our Children, and the Heart of Our Community
Dear neighbours,
Something extraordinary is happening in North Finchley — and not in a good way.
After decades of peace and stability, our beloved neighbourhood is now under siege. Four enormous planning applications have been submitted by the developer Regal London — proposals that, if approved, will change North Finchley forever.
Here’s what’s at stake:
1. An extra storey on top of a building that was only ever designed for six floors — risking safety, overshadowing nearby homes, and setting a dangerous precedent.
2. The North Finchley Town Centre Masterplan — 855 new homes crammed into towering blocks up to 21 storeys high, replacing most of the area around Tally Ho with steel, glass, and concrete.
3. Lodge Lane Car Park — 98 more flats, a tiny cinema and bowling alley, and parking spaces slashed from 222 to just 80.
4. Great North Leisure Park — a staggering 1,502 flats in dense, high-rise blocks. All current leisure facilities — Vue Cinema, Hollywood Bowl — demolished. A new “Lido” shoved onto another site.
This isn’t careful planning. This is reckless overdevelopment. And we will all pay the price:
🚧 10+ years of relentless construction noise and dust
🏘️ Loss of privacy as towering blocks loom over our homes
🚗 Traffic gridlock and impossible parking
🚔 A hit to safety and security as streets become overcrowded
🏥 Increased pressure on NHS services and local schools
👶 Children walking to school in unsafe, overbuilt streets
☕ No more quiet afternoons on the high street — just shadows and stress
North Finchley has a soul — a special cultural charm that’s taken decades to build. We love our cafés, our cinema, our quiet streets, and our green spaces. These plans threaten to destroy all of that.
What’s happening here is happening across London’s suburbs — but we can stop it here. Barnet Council has a choice:
It can protect North Finchley and become a shining example for London…
Or it can sell out our future to developers — and let this community become another cautionary tale.
We call on all residents of North Finchley and surrounding areas to stand together. Sign this petition. Share it. Speak up.
Let’s show them: this is our home, and we will fight for it.
✨ For the laughter of our children.
✨ For safe streets and green parks.
✨ For tea in the sun on our high street.
✨ For North Finchley — and its future.
Join us. Say NO to overdevelopment. Say YES to our community.
