**Defend ISGH integrity and address false allegations**
The Issue
We, the undersigned members of the Muslim community in Houston and part of ISGH (Islamic Society of Greater Houston), express serious concern regarding the spread of misinformation and divisive rhetoric through social media and other channels, which is impacting unity within our community.
Concerns have been raised by community members regarding the conduct of certain individuals, including Abdel Hamid Moursy, Sh. Abdurrahman Hijazi, Faizan Atiq, Iqbal Al-Luqman, Nadir Tayyab, Kamran Sabir, and their associates. We request that ISGH leadership review these concerns through a fair and structured process - including use of Social media to falsely accuse ISGH and its elected officials.
We call upon ISGH leadership to take prompt, firm, and appropriate action, including reviewing reported incidents, enforcing organizational policies, and, where appropriate, referring matters to relevant authorities.
Our shared objective is to protect the integrity of our institutions, uphold the values of respect and truth, and ensure a unified and healthy environment for the Muslim ummah.
WHAT HAPPENED
Shaikh Dr. Abdulrahman Hejazi’s tenure at Masjid Al-Salam has not had a positive impact on the community and has adversely affected the community -
- Involvement in last ISGH elections related activities and frequent closed-door meetings with specific individuals, raising concerns about impartiality is no secret
- Khutbahs are often overly critical, negative and discouraging, having a demoralizing effect on the community, even during celebratory occasions
- Very critical of normal Muslim way of life in the United States and potentially discouraging integration and encouraging Muslims to be opposite of the American way.
- Discontinued revert Muslim class; criticized ongoing Hifz program; disallowed programs/events with visiting scholars
- Frequent critical references to administration from the pulpit, limited support for masjid initiatives and doesn't show up for critical masjid occasions
- Comments made to invoke uprising among community against the administration / hypocrites in masjid
- Shouted and yelled at elected officials, mediation members, other imams, congregants openly in the corridors of the masjid with kids watching
- Constantly bothers senior congregants to change the placement of their chairs, skip rows in congregation during salah
- Delayed Salah after iqamah to accommodate friends arriving late to salah and open interactions with other imams that were dismissive / disrespectful
- Constantly calls out differences from the pulpit among the four madhabs contributing to division rather than inclusion
- Unable to lead taraveh & unable to lead Friday fajr salah. No involvement in fundraising, no new program established over the past 19 months
- Demands his choice of committee members; chooses to work with only selected individual volunteers & his friends
- Allegedly involved in creating anonymous profiles & email ids, phone numbers to send anonymous communications and messaging impersonating as a community member with help from ex-elected officials
- Constantly plays victim and seeks our support through WhatsApp, phone calls & emails after starting a dispute with administration, other imams or congregants
When such an imam was given multiple opportunities as indicated by the current administration before letting him go; the prior administration is trying to spread false rumors and setting their own narratives saying -
- the administration intends to reinstate previous imam,
- the administration plans broad personnel changes targeting those hired previously,
- the administration acted unfairly or without due process,
- misleading or false information about current administration is being shared through text messages, social media, and other informal platforms,
- petitions and communications have been circulated containing claims that are clearly lies.
Unfortunately, individuals who are less regularly or rarely engaged with the masjid may not have full context and could be influenced by false & incomplete information circulated by certain elements in the community.
While some community members have drawn comparisons to prior events involving Sh. Mamdouh, but there are clear & important differences in process and approach -
- Sh. Mamdouh expressed displeasure with administration in fajr khatira and he was terminated by Asr & he was banned from future ISGH employment, from leading salah & doing khutba and khatira
- Sh. Hijazi reportedly has been given several months and multiple meetings in an effort to reach a resolution prior to a final decision was reached with no other restriction imposed
- Abdel Hamid Moursy and Ayman Kabire had no advance communication with the council and congregants before the decision was made to terminate Sh. Mamdouh
- Current administration reportedly has engaged extensively with the council, holding multiple discussions and providing updates over an extended period.
- Abdel Hamid Moursy was dismissive of the congregants when asked any questions in a similar situation whereas Abdurrehman Ansari is always available to clarify anything
DEMAND
1. Report the individuals to authorities for the false claims on petitions against ISGH officials
2. Cancel their ISGH membership for 3 years
3. Investigate & Report Sh. Hijazi's involvement in impersonating with fake email id's and phone numbers and creating chaos in the organization
4. Removal of the petition against the President and the General Secretary that is full of lies
