The Issue

Growing up in Wingham, Ontario, I remember the countless afternoons spent with friends searching for fun and safe ways to spend our time; unfortunately, the lack of local recreational facilities too often left us idle and longing for something more engaging. Now, as a parent, I see my son facing the same challenge, and it breaks my heart to think that the boredom we once knew can open doors to trouble for the youth in our community.

Wingham is a vibrant town, filled with energetic and creative young people, but without sufficient activities or Venues our youth will look for trouble and will actively create trouble for community members and authority members. Giving our community youth something they actually enjoy participating in will keep them active and busy not having time and energy to create any publz issues

A bike park can serve as a safe place for youth to engage with peers, develop new skills, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Looking around I see smaller towns like Clinton and Lucknow who have gave their community a safe skate park.

Across Canada, communities similar in size to Wingham have reaped the benefits of installing dedicated bike parks. Take for instance the positive impact witnessed in Clinton, Ontario. With the establishment of their bike park, there was a noted increase in youth engagement in constructive recreational activities and a decrease in incidents related to youth crimes.

For a bike park project, potential areas around our community could be evaluated to find the most suitable space, ensuring accessibility and minimal disruption to existing facilities. Funding could be sought through local government grants, community fundraising initiatives, and partnerships with local businesses and cycling organizations.

Join me in urging the Wingham council and local authorities to consider this significant investment in our community's future. Sign this petition to support the construction of a dedicated bike park for our youth. Let's work together to provide a safe, exciting, and constructive environment for the next generation to thrive. Seems that there's alot of let down due to liability issues but really there's no more of a liability then if one of our youth takes the bike trail across the train bridge and heads straight behind West cast down a steep concrete hill , a bike park with intermediate jumps and some dirt really isn't much of a liability none the less the community trail now must have some sort of liability insurance and if that be the case then continueing the trail across Victoria Street West onto 248 would make the perfect place, and it's already been approved by property owner.
