Decriminalize Sex Work in Texas for Safer Working Conditions

Decriminalize Sex Work in Texas for Safer Working Conditions

The Issue

As a sex worker in Texas, I am personally familiar with the dangers and stigma that come with criminalization. It's time we change this. The decriminalization of sex work is not just about personal freedom; it's about safety, health, and human rights.

In places where sex work has been decriminalized, such as New Zealand, there has been a significant improvement in the safety and health of sex workers (source: Prostitution Law Review Committee Report). They have more control over their working conditions which reduces their vulnerability to violence and exploitation.

Moreover, studies from the World Health Organization show that when sex work is decriminalized, it becomes easier to implement HIV prevention measures among workers (source: WHO Guidelines). This could be particularly impactful in Texas where approximately 5% of all new HIV diagnoses in the U.S. occur (source: CDC).

Decriminalizing sex work also allows for better regulation of the industry and can help prevent trafficking by making it easier for victims to seek help without fear of legal repercussions (source: Amnesty International).

By continuing to criminalize sex work we are perpetuating harm against those involved. We need your support to make a change towards safer working conditions for all Texans involved in this line of work. Please sign this petition today!
