Declaration of AP Student Privileges and Grievances

The Issue

Adapted from The Declaration of Rights and Grievances (1765, Stamp Act Congress)

The members of this student-body, as rule abiding students with the intention of taking AP tests, and with minds deeply impressed by a sense of the present and impending misfortunes of the students in this school; having considered as maturely as time would permit, the circumstances of said students, esteem it our indispensable duty to make the following declarations, of our humble opinions, respecting the most essential privileges of the students, and of the grievances under which they labor, by reason of one recent policy enactment of the administration.

1st. That it is inseparably essential to the mental health and academic success of a student, that no classes should be imposed on them during the days of their AP tests, but with their own consent, given personally, or by their parents/guardians.

2nd. That the newest policy of the administration, by enforcing attendance on the students on their AP test days, has subverted a previously entirely expected privilege of the students, for a purpose which has yet to reveal itself.

3rd. That the restrictions imposed by this policy of the administration, on the attendance of AP test-takers, will render them unable to follow the assertions made by the administration.

4th. That the academic success, prosperity, stress aversion, and happiness of these students depends greatly on the full and free enjoyment of their previously granted privileges, and a relationship with the administration, mutually cooperative and advantageous.

5th. That it is the right of the students in this school, to petition the school or administrators.

6th. That the regulations placed on students in Kennedy should mirror the regulations of Calhoun and Mepham, with exceptions acceptable in instances with clear reasoning openly acknowledged to students.

Lastly, That it is the indispensable duty of these students to the best of the administrators, to their fellows, and to themselves, to endeavor, by a loyal and dutiful address to those who made this decision, to compel the repeal of the policy enforcing attendance during class time surrounding AP tests, and resist its implementation until the previous statement is fulfilled.
