This is the official letter received as a reply to my first email to DECD. I have just sent a reply to Sally Robbins discussing further. Hello, I am writing to you today with a concern about the application process. I was have received correspondence from Anne Millard, of which I have attached and they suggest I contact you for further information and discussion. I am wanting to know and understand why it is SA home educators need two signatures on the application process and all other states besides ACT require only one. I have avoided court this since the biological father and I separated and this has worked well. I simply do not understand why he has such control over our lives, with something like home education, something he's never participated in or asked about prior in her traditional schooling life, never played a part in or seemed to have regard for. Why is it that, in such the case of education - as Anne writes "each of the parents of a child has parental responsiblity for the child. This includes major long-term decisions about the child's education." If that is really the case how is it I am able to select any school to send her to, and have done previously with out his signature? More over it seems to me he doesn't give a damn. The decision will not effect his life in any way, and hasn't done preciously. Yet, to us its become our whole life. I'm baffled to why he has such huge control over our lives. Why is my only option school or court? Why is it so hard in SA, and why is SA rules so hugely different to other states? Not only does he have huge control over how we live our lives but this causes huge mental anguish in me and many families I have spoken with, as far to say a mother had to move interstate to home educate because of legal reasons, the paperwork expired but the dept in SA required the fathers signature. It disgusts me that so many families are experiencing this stress year in and year out in SA. This rule needs to change not only to align with other states but to allow home education to be an option, but also release us of mental anguish that this causes. Like single parents aren't doing enough already without having to have something as ridiculous as this two signature rule to deal with too. I have spoken to many families, I have much support backing me with this and I would like to see the rule align with other states. Looking forward to hearing a response. Thanks for your time, Emma Fisher
