Be aware that if you contact Decathlon UK with your concerns, you will likely receive a reply along the lines of ""... We want to assure you that we are not supporting or encouraging any activities of this sort. We have removed all products that fall into this category.... At Decathlon UK we are committed to having a positive impact on the environment. "
This is disingenuous as it applies strictly within UK borders and thus irrelevant, given that by definition our birds migrate beyond these boundaries. These products are on sale by Decathlon all across Europe - below for example is the current (11th August) advert in France for their lure for Turtle doves - (IUCN status "Vulnerable")
My understanding is that every Decathlon store worldwide is part of the single corporate entity - Decathlon SA; there are no separate companies or subsidiaries. This is what makes their claims (anywhere) of being committed to positive environmental impacts so disingenuous. They do however know their markets, legislation, and public opinion and are very keen to distance their public image in the UK from the killing of songbirds and migratory birds which is embedded in their range elsewhere.
So their idea of "a positive impact on the environment" is waiting till birds migrate before subjecting them to the "Decathlon Gauntlet" of slaughter.
