Law Allowing Recovery for Emotional Distress & Loss of Companionship in Vet Malpractice
The Issue
Veterinarian Malpractice cases have traditionally treated pets, companion, and service animals (hereinafter "animals") as property. This precludes actions for damages for emotional distress and loss of companionship, essentially treating our animals as a couch.
However, our animals are more than property. They are our companions, children, and family. When we lose them we grieve, we're devastated and heart broken from the loss of our beloved. Some of us conduct memorials.
Our animals are more than just a couch, a piece of property that we can easily replace. They provide a personality, communication, joy, happiness, and unconditional love.
So, we request new Arizona Statutes that cover and expand damages for Veterinarian Malpractice. We further request that the Popular Name of these statues be "Thor's Law."
Thor, who was only 6 years old, died as a result of Veterinarian Negligence, Incompetence, Cover Ups, Bad Faith, etc. Thor suffered immense pain as a result of a botched surgery, failure to diagnose, and failure to disclose lab results. In addition, the last days of his life were spent forcing medications which they knew were ineffective and could cause further damage to Thor.
