Running Creek Bridge, Woolooga. New bridge, new location for safer travelling
The issue
The Running Creek Bridge is located on the Brooweena Woolooga Road, approximately 17 km NNW of Woolooga. Access to both sides of the bridge is dirt road and there are 90 degree turns either end.
Consequently, the road becomes very corrugated and vehicles are unable to safely negotiate the turn onto the bridge. Many end up going over the edge of the bridge and into the creek. GPS/Google Maps directs people this way as it is the shortest route of travelling from Brisbane to Rockhampton and vice versa. So those not used to driving on dirt roads struggle to handle the unsealed road conditions.
It is an urgent safety requirement that this dangerous bridge is corrected before a tourist or local is fatally injured. Travel time is approx 40 minutes to Gypmie which is quite a long time till medical assistance arrives. The bridge must be moved, and the road must have bitumen to ensure safe entry for vehicles from both directions.
This bridge and last 6klm of dirt road has been in the spotlight of councillors and emergency personnel for more than 40years, now is the time fix this properly before any fatalities occur.
