New episode out now: We have lost too many Mandelas and Gandhis | Utkarsh Amitabh (Author and CEO, Network Capital)
In this episode of the School of Social Justice video podcast, I have a conversation with Utkarsh Amitabh, founder and CEO of Network Capital, an international community of over 100,000 people who help each other overcome professional and personal challenges.
Utkarsh has written two published books, and he contributes articles to the Harvard Business Review. His job is to enable people to connect and support each other, grow the community at scale, and create systems for peer-to-peer and many-to-many forms of education.
He argues that one of the greatest causes of social injustice is wrongful, misdirected, and misguided training and teaching. Of course the world is unfair: We’re training Einsteins to be basketballers and Michael Jordans to be scientists!
This conversation strengthened my belief that we need better and more education and training for people who want to become activists and campaigners, for people who want to change the world.
There are organisations that have millions of US Dollars and Great British Pounds invested in and donated to them to teach people how to become tech entrepreneurs, corporate lawyers, and investment bankers.
We need that much and more invested in and donated to organisations that teach people how to become changemakers. That way we can exponentially amplify the ability for us to tackle deep and intractable social problems such as racism and sexism, poverty and inequality, human rights abuses and environmental damage.
Change doesn't just happen: We need to proactively invest in and upskill every new generation in the strategies, skills, tools, and tactics needed to win progress.
Interview highlights:
- Everyone has a super power. It is the responsibility of educators and educational systems to help individuals uncover what theirs is.
- Humour is a powerful tool for activists to take on powerful dictators.
- Asking the right questions can often be more important than coming up with solutions.
