DEAR HOUSE & SENATE, GET TO WORK! We the people call for 'Special Joint Session' NOW!
The Issue
Dear Madam Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader McConnell,
We the people signing this petition demand that you call a special joint legislative session (extraordinary session) of Congress and Senate. There are several extenuating issues that require our elected representatives immediate attention, and therefore, we demand you bring Congress and Senate together to address the following emergent and immediate threats to our democracy and our common wellbeing:
1. Our United States Postal Service, and therefore the integrity of our 2020 Presidential Election and by extension our democracy is under attack.
2. The stalled negotiations on the HEROES Act H.R.6800. You as our elected officials are required to work together. We understand that no bill is going to be perfect, but we do need our legislators to come to an agreement on the next round of stimulus in response to the perpetuated economic and public health crisis created by the epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 nationwide response. WE NEED A STIMULUS PACKAGE PASSED NOW!
RE: Attack On Postal Service
- Per Title 18 U.S. Code § 595 - Elections and Political Activities: "Whoever, being a person employed in any administrative position by the United States, or by any department or agency thereof . . . uses his official authority for the purpose of interfering with, or affecting, the nomination or the election of any candidate for the office of President, Vice President, Presidential elector, Member of the Senate, Member of the House of Representatives, Delegate from the District of Columbia, or Resident Commissioner, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
- In an interview with Maria Bartiromo, President Trump is quoted as saying: “You know, there's nothing wrong with getting out and voting, you get out and vote. They voted during World War I and World War II, and they should have voter ID because the Democrats scammed the system. But, two of the items are the Post Office and the $3.5 billion for mail-in voting. Now, if we don't make a deal, that means they don't get the money...That means they can't have universal mail-in voting, they just can't have it. So, you know, sort of a crazy thing. Very interesting.”
- In a press conference, President Trump On Friday, Trump was asked if he would sign a bill that included funding for the USPS. He said, “Sure, if they gave us what we want.”
- The Senate was in Session August 3rd - 7th. The day AFTER Senate recessed, August 8th, marked the strategic attack on the availability of post office boxes and reduction in post office hours in the United States, as four states (New York, Oregon, Montana and Indiana) reported the removal of boxes. While at the time of this petition, on Friday August 14th the USPS Spokesperson reportedly said that the USPS will stop removal of boxes in 16 states until after the election, what is happening in the other 34 states.
- A clear and blatant attack on our postal service 79 days before the Presidential Election is direct intention to interfere in said election and disenfranchise American citizens from voting. There is widespread misinformation, confusion and concern in public opinion due to the blatant attack on the postal service by this administration that both timely ballot delivery and return transit times will compromise the integrity of this election. WE NEED A PLAN IN PLACE FOR EVERY REGISTERED VOTER IN THIS COUNTRY HAS A SAFE AND REASONABLE ABILITY TO CAST THEIR VOTE FOR PRESIDENT ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 3RD.
- If the postal service is defunded and ultimately disbanded, that leaves many questions regarding the monopoly of Fedex and UPS in our logistics and shipping options.
- GET BACK TO WORK AND ENSURE OUR POSTAL SERVICE IS FULLY FUNDED! NOW!
RE: HEROES/HEALES Act
- Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics as of Friday, August 7th, there are currently 16.3 million people unemployed - up by 10.6 million Americans since February 2020. While the rate of unemployment has declined in the past three months as portions of the country reopen, the sheer volume of Americans unemployed due to COVID-19 is staggering and without another round of Stimulus puts our economy in peril.
- We understand that no bill is going to incur universal bi-partisan approval. DO YOUR JOBS, please. Governing includes collaborating, compromising and passing timely legislation to manage the economic impact of the mismanagement of the COVID-19 response to this public health emergency.
- Major segments of the economy and many industries are continually impacted and do not have the ability with the current state of the pandemic to return to regular operations and revenue production. The restaurant industry is about to collapse which employs 13.5 million people, the live events industry is practically nonexistent - which employs 12 million people, the airline, hotel travel and tourism industry is suffering extreme losses as well. Student loans are coming due in September 2020. Americans who can not pay their rents are being evicted. THE PANDEMIC is not over!
WE THE PEOPLE NEED YOUR HELP NOW! NOT NEXT WEEK, NOT NEXT MONTH! NOW! Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader McConnell - you are responsible. You are culpable. And 'we the people' will hold you accountable.
GET TO WORK.
