Dear all,
As you have probably seen in your inbox, Facebook has responded to our petition. I would like to say a huge thank you to Facebook for taking the time to respond to all the signers of the petition through a detailed statement. (Read here http://chn.ge/1OQDPa4)
In their response, Facebook reassured us the "The terrorists, their propaganda and those who make the apology of it do not have their place on Facebook." This is good to hear, but only reiterates statements already made to the media.
Facebook explained that they rely on its 1.5 billion users to alert when accounts or pro ISIS contents are posted. This is where we are calling on Facebook to commit to more. The threat is too great to only rely on a simple post publication moderation policy.
Facebook, you declare that you already do everything in your power in terms of moderation, but is that really enough? Unfortunately no concrete commitment seems to be considered by you in the fight against EI.
How not to expect more outstanding commitments from the world's largest social network while President Barack Obama announced himself he hopes there can be more cooperation with the giants of the Web?
I hopefully will meet with officials from Facebook France on Monday to further discuss about the petition and their possible commitments.
Until then, I count on you to remain mobilized. Here are two things you can do:
- Tweet the answer to Facebook and share on Facebook here to affirm your commitment that the network go further http://bit.ly/1IUPIFH
- Comment Facebook's response to review and encourage them to make strong commitments http://chn.ge/1OQDPa4
Thank you all for your participation and support, I could Facebook so involved without your support.
Julie
