Prevent the Technical Review within the Faculty of Arts at Northumbria University 2020
From the 17th February 2020 a technical review has taken place within the Faculty of Arts and Design at Northumbria University which will result in the reorganisation of technical teams. The current proposal suggests that numerous vital technicians will be made redundant within up to 15 weeks and their current role eliminated from the University. For (BA) Fine Art, this implies the loss of access to sculpture, print and photography which are key components and highlights of the course. In addition to this, this will limit the crucial contact time between ALL students within the Faculty of Arts and technical staff.
Currently there is already very unsatisfactory contact time between students within the Faculty of Arts and technical staff. Reducing contact time further creates a sense of false advertisement of the equipment and technical resources available to students when first enrolling. The technical review has not been consulted by students, who are paying £9,250 annually to be a part of the course.
This petition is to address the shock, outrage and upset caused by the current technical review proposal and the lack of communication between the students and current plans. By signing this petition, you are stating that the current technical review is not acceptable and that the Faculty of Arts and Design should focus on increasing technical staff rather than eliminating roles or reorganising technical teams and assuming it will "help support your learning experience."
