The biggest takeaway from today is that Neither Vanessa Paradis nor Winona Ryder will be called to testify. They say it’s because there’s no need, as the allegations are that Johnny Depp hit Amber Heard, not them, so they won’t be called at all.
I’m not gonna lie. I was looking forward to seeing Vanessa take Queen’s Counsel (QC) apart stitch by stitch.
Sean Bett, a former LA county sheriff, worked for Johnny Depp in the 90’s as a security guard and as his driver. He’s the security guard that took pictures of Johnny Depp’s face after Amber Heard’s 30th birthday party, when she admittedly punched him in the face. He also helped search for Johnny Depp’s phone after Amber Heard threw it out of the apartment. QC tried to minimalize SB’s interaction with Johnny Depp and his family, so that it would somehow matter less when SB testified that he never saw injuries on Amber Heard. She flat out called SB a liar, but SB said that she could call him a liar a hundred times. It doesn’t change the facts. SB had no problem whatsoever asserting the facts, despite repeatedly having his statements challenged. QC said that they would have to agree to disagree.
I disagree. We’re not dealing with matters of opinion, here. It doesn’t matter what QC thinks, it matters what she can prove.
The judge stepping in when QC tried to insinuate that Johnny Depp, as well as SB, were involved in a nightclub incident where a woman says she was roughed up and handcuffed by Johnny Depp’s security, who tried to pass themselves off as police officers. Judge told QC to stop testifying and ask a question. Thank goodness! QC has a tendency to testify rather than posing a question.
While Winona Ryder and Vanessa Paradis will not be called on to testify, their witness statements were released and available to read online.
They’re running behind, so Amber Heard will not take the stand tomorrow. She’ll have the whole weekend to best figure out how to spin some damage control, if she doesn’t spend the time clubbing or shopping.
There isn’t a schedule yet as to who will appear next, or when, but here’s a suggested list of who might take the stand tomorrow. Isaac Baruch, artist and friend of Johnny Depp. Travis McGivern, Building manager at the Eastern Columbia Building. And Katherine Kendall, an actor and #metoo advocate.
On a personal note, it’s been suggested that I take these updates too personally. Yes, I do, especially when a woman’s survival of rape is stolen and twisted by a narcissistic sociopath to read like it’s her own story, I do take it very personally. As a survivor, a woman, and as a human being. And I will NOT apologize for that.
More as it happens, folks.
