It was reported in the High Court that Johnny Depp wrote of drowning and burning his ex wife Amber Heard in text messages to his fellow actor Paul Bettany. The mainstream media immediately ran with it, screaming that Depp "threatened" Heard with doing those things.
First, those texts were private messages. Depp was frustrated with his abuser. Heard was never intended to read those, therefore, they are not a threat to her.
Second, to state the obvious, Depp never burned or drowned Heard. In fact, in the same text, he confesses that he could never spray his rage at the woman he loves. Not only were those words never a threat in the first place, but he also asserts that he could never do such a thing.
And finally, let's not forget that Amber Heard DID burn Johnny Depp. She put a cigarette out on his face. That's a fact.
Let's stop focusing on something that never happened and start paying attention to what actually DID happen.
The fact that the mainstream media refuses to report on Amber Heard's clear admissions of guilt, but jump all over Johnny Depp's frustrated texts to his friend about something that never happened display the ongoing bias against a male survivor of domestic abuse.
Right now, with the current social environment, there are victims of abuse that continue to suffer because they've got nowhere to turn.
This double standard needs to be addressed, and it needs to be rectified. That way, male survivors of domestic might feel more comfortable coming forward and seeking help.
