Johnny Depp appeared in England's High Court on Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing in his libel case against the Sun. Depp is is suing the tabloid and its executive editor Dan Wootton over a 2018 article which directly referred to him as a wife-beater.

This comes ahead of his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. The two cases are directly related because both involve Amber Heard accusing Depp of committing domestic violence against her, and Depp insisting that Heard was the abuser in their relationship.

It's safe to say that the outcome of the libel suit will foreshadow and effect how the defamation trial will play out. And the results of both may very well affect whether or not Amber Heard returns as Mera in Aquaman 2. This is very likely the reason that filming was pushed back a year, to allow for the outcome of both.

Depp's case against Heard is set to proceed in August of this year.
