Improve the Limited Purpose Driver's License System at the DC DMV

The Issue

We, the residents of Washington DC, request the following from the DMV:

1. Phase out the LPDL appointment system and integrate applicants into daily service schedule.

Currently, undocumented individuals who apply for the Limited Purpose Driver's License must schedule an appointment in order to come into the DMV.  There is a 4-6 month backlog for appointments. Eliminating the appointment system will allow individuals to seek out services only when they are ready to complete the process. Additionally, it will eliminate any issues with “no shows” because people can go into the DMV whenever they are available. Finally, it will allow individuals to secure their licenses in a timelier manner.

2. Provide road test examiners for Limited and Non-English Proficient individuals in their native languages as required by the Language Access Act.

A lack of multilingual examiners makes it impossible for individuals to take the road test in non-English languages. This effectively bars limited English speakers from securing licenses.
