The Dawid Kruiper Municipality in Upington has been rendering substandard service to the community of Upington. 

Complaints range from increase of potholes and poor maintenance of roads, poor maintenance of parks and sidewalks, poor management of illegal dumping, refuse and rubbish removal, poor maintenance of sewage, poor maintenance of infrastructure, poor maintenance of public resorts, parks and swimming pools, lack of municipal security services, poor maintenance of road lights, the non availability of land to sell to citizens, poor control of land and the issuing of land, poor control of influx of foreign nationals with inability to check legal status to reside in South Africa, inability to deal with the high increase of homeless people and crimes associated with the influx of homeless people in certain areas of Upington, inability to deal with drug abuse, etc.

There are several platforms that the public use to state their concerns. There is little to no response on complaints. From no answering of telephones, poor feedback on the municipal facebook social media page, poor communication to the community, no or slow intervention on concerns raised and a general apathetic attitude or response to citizens. 

The citizens of Upington has had enough and will no longer accept the poor services rendered by Dawid Kruiper Municipality. 

Dawid Kruiper has 14 days to respond to this petition that will be handed over. We, the citizens of Upington demand the following:

1. Immediate strategic plan on how to address these abovementioned issues given to the community on public platform so that we can hold the Municipality accountable.

2. A clear turnaround timeline in which there are dates when all work demanded will be completed. 

3. Fix our roads.

4. Fix Die Eiland, Reitzpark and Blou Dakke or sell it to private investors. Not officials who are under government employment.

5. Fix lamp poles and lights not working.

6. Start cleaning up our parks, sidewalks and deal effectively with people who drink publicly in public parks and litter in public parks.

7. Get a shelter for the homeless and get them off the streets.

8. Get stakeholders together and deal effectively with drug selling and abuse in our community. Re-open Resilia.

9. Get illegal foreigners out of Upington.

10. Get a proper system in place for issuing of land. You cannot just hand out land to non-paying citizens to the extent that paying, employed citizens cannot access land or property. 

The public can add to the above.

The Municipal Manager and his senior management team has 14 days to respond to this.

Should this petition do not get positive results, legal intervention will be obtained with the aggression and urgency it deserves to pay rates and taxes to a private entity to repair Upington themselves. Furthermore, a motion of no confidence will be handed in for Municipal Manager and his team to step down.
