Thank you for the support and joining me in the fight to save our public Forests in Upper Michigan.
Both Side of this road are included in the CLEAR CUT and there is NO INFESTATION of Spruce bud Worm as can be plainly seen. Many Birch, Cherry and Aspen mixed in the Pines too.
Michigan and Wisconsin were covered in old growth forests at the turn of the century, just over 100 years ago. Where names such as "Gods Country" and "Land of the Tall Pines" were given to the forests of Michigan and Wisconsin which conjures up thoughts of beauty and wilderness and all the while their natural old growth forests were destroyed by CLEAR CUTTING in the name of progress to supply lumber to build cities such as San Francisco and Chicago. The forests have tried to make a come back and return beauty to the States as it once was, but once again in the name of Profit they seek to again destroy the beauty of the forest yet again. Agreed forest management has a place modern forestry but CLEAR CUTTING is an ignorant, unimaginative, small minded and destructive form of management akin to uneducated process of an era gone by. That same kind of thought that came here in the days when foreign lumber companies came to America to rape our land to line their pockets with America's Natural Resources because they had already devoured their own.
The picture you see above is of a beautiful back road (Cable Lake rd) near Cable Lake in Michigan. Cable Lake is a walleye and northern lake with crystal clear water and a beautiful picturesque canopied tree lined road. Just picture that in your mind oh what a beautiful relaxing thought. Well the lake is still there but most of the trees are gone, it looks like a war zone on they way to the lake its just awful, it actually brings a tear to my eye when i see it.
As you can see the trees are lush and green (picture taken 8-9-2016 ), and this forest is due to be CLEAR CUT because the DNR claims it is infected with the spruce bud worm. A small portion of fir trees (about 5-10%) of the entire forest has been affected and those affected trees are in stands that can be removed by selective cutting, leaving the other trees can continue to grow into a natural forest. Deer, bear, wolves, and even Moose live here along with many birds species such as; Bald Eagles, several types of Woodpeckers, Partridge/Grouse, and Owls inhabit these woods year round and countless other animals, where will they all go?
I know this first hand as I am in the woods all year and have seen the wildlife in their natural setting. Just this past week an adolescent Cougar passed in front of my car on this road, I have been in these woods weekly for nine years and that was my first sighting and what a beautifully wild thing to witness. Things like that will be gone for generations to come!! We must stop IGNORANT CLEAR CUTTING and come up with a BETTER PLAN.
