Kanshin Ruth Ozeki, novelist, Zen priest, Smith College professor, and resident of Warfield Place, and Kosen Greg Snyder, senior Zen priest, co-founder of Brooklyn (NY) Zen Center, and Senior Director of Buddhist Studies at Union Theological Seminary, will be conducting a Zen ordination ceremony to ordain the Japanese cherry trees on Warfield Place as priests. The ordination of trees is a custom that started in Thailand and spread throughout Asia. It is a way of protecting trees by acknowledging them as sacred, honoring their precious lives, and recognizing all that they do for us.
Please join us for this ceremony and vigil for the trees.
Date: Monday, July 12, 2021
Time: Vigil starts at 8:00 AM, and Ordination starts at 9:00 AM
Location: Warfield Place, Northampton, MA
All are welcome!
We have received notice that the DPW will begin the re-paving project on July 12, 2021, but we still do not know the exact date they will start on Warfield Place.
