why are the government promoting a USA minicab co,over the iconic London black taxi trade

The Issue

I'm a licensed London taxi driver of 26 years and my industry is being totally ruined by transport for London, who have in my opinion been persuaded to license an illegal USA tech company who are pretending to be a legitimate minicab company. I feel they have (TFL) been bullied by our government into promoting this company by David Cameron, who has very strong links with one of the top executives of uber, who is godmother to one of his children no less, and indeed going out for meals at sexy fish in Mayfair where it costs £3500 for a bottle of champagne, Is there more that meets the eye? Please help me save our 300 year old industry, not for us cab drivers but for London. We are an icon and love London and our customers, hopefully we can continue to serve you and your children for years to come, I'm not political but I'm passionate about my trade, the beautiful city I work in and the wonderful people I have had as customers throughout the years.

“Dear Petitioner Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about Uber and its operation in London. The Mayor has the utmost respect for taxi drivers, and their skills and knowledge. Our city’s taxi trade is seen as the gold standard across the world, and the Mayor wants to ensure that the industry flourishes for many years to come. In late September 2015, Transport for London (TfL) published its Taxi and Private Hire Strategy, which is available to view on TfL’s website at, http://content.tfl.gov.uk/taxi-and-private-hire-strategy2.pdf, setting out its vision for the future of taxi and private hire services in London. To support the taxi trade, £600,000 is being invested to increase the number of taxi ranks across the capital by 20 per cent. TfL is also working to ensure the continued provision of taxi services in the suburbs. In addition, TfL and the Mayor have successfully defended the policy to allow taxis to use bus lanes in the High Court and, following a favourable ruling in the European Court of Justice, TfL continues to defend the policy in the Court of Appeal. Turning to your petition, TfL has not treated and does not treat Uber differently to any other applicant or private hire operator. Uber had to meet the same licensing requirements as any other applicant and must continue to adhere to the regulations that apply to all private hire operators in London.
