A century ago there were probably more than 230,000 orangutans in total, this figure is now quartered.

Over 50,000 orangutans have already died as a result of palm oil in the last two decades through deforestation, forest fires, and easier access for hunters and poachers. Wildlife such as orangutans have been found buried alive, killed from machete attacks, guns and other weaponry. Mother orangutans are also often killed by poachers and have their babies taken to be sold or kept as pets, or used for entertainment.

The worldwide mass of companies that use unsustainably sourced palm oil is astonishing, what's more they are allowed to label it under an array of pseudonyms, or simply "vegetable oil", making boycotting near impossible.
