Reform of the law 'The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995'

Reform of the law 'The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995'
The Issue
Currently in the UK, the Jewish and Muslim communities are exempt from a section of the law in ‘The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995. This exemption requires that all animals are to be stunned prior to slaughter. Stunning, electrical, captive bolt or gas, is a process that causes the animal to lose consciousness, making them unable to feel pain prior to killing.
We the undersigned would like to petition that all religious slaughter to conform to the same humane standards as UK meat slaughter, this includes pre-stunning of meat before carrying out any religious practice.
Currently there is no law for the labelling of meat on the method used for killing within the UK. We would also like to call for all meat slaughtered for religious purposes be subject to compulsory labelling so as to give the consumer the choice.
