Leave the BBC alone #BackTheBBC

The Issue

Backing a letter by celebrity signatories including Dame Judi Dench, Daniel Craig, David Attenborough and J.K Rowling, this petition calls on the government to allow the BBC to develop as it chooses, and not to force it to become a 'narrowly-focused' broadcaster, which does not produce the shows people in this country adore. The BBC's output must inform, educate and entertain — and this third arm of the BBC's mission is very much under threat by a Conservative government that seeks to diminish this.

The BBC is one of Britain's greatest institutions. It funds a multitude of programming supporting our creative industry, creates healthy competition with commercial rivals such as ITV and Sky — leading to better programming  for all, and means the creation of bright futures for hundreds of up and coming actors, musicians, presenters and many more.

This petition asks that:

- The BBC's resources are not cut so it can continue to provide high-quality and varied content.

- There is not controls placed on what it can and cannot produce.
