Theresa May your school attendance laws are discriminating to disabled and sick children
The Issue
My daughter Molly has been sick for 16 years. She is no longer at school because she is too unwell to be there in fact the school are probably relieved she is not there because of your one rule fits all policies.
Your recent government policies on school attendance are making it even more impossible for parents of sick children to manage their child's chronic conditions.
It is also making parents of healthy children feel unable to parent and look after their children in the way they should thus having to send their children in to school sick because they are worried about consequences of being contacted by authorities, It seems cruel and unfair.
If children are genuinely unwell they should not be at school.
This is making things more and more difficult for children of already sick and disabled children because there are many more viruses circulating in schools.
This is discrimination and has to be addressed.
Its causing huge arguments between head teachers who have their hands tied and have to enforce these laws and parents who obviously are not happy about sending 'their' children in sick.
The rule about a dr's letter is pure ludicrous, Drs will have lines of parents queuing up asking for letters for viruses !!?? putting even more needless pressure on the nhs.
Please review this policy not all children fit in to your average bracket. there needs to be a more humane approach to this, i know for a fact that my daughter has cost the NHS thousands because of constant pneumonia's and chest infections due to catching colds at school
My child for instance could be seriously ill with her life threatening condition if she were to get a simple sickness bug.
Please consider this when reviewing this ridiculous policy... Our children are not robots.
