Mise à jour sur la pétitionDarius’s Law: Strengthen Canada’s Amber Alert SystemHelp bring Darius’s Law to Parliament

Thank you for signing and sharing the petition for Darius’s Law. Your support has been incredible — and it’s already making a real impact. We know that people inside government are paying attention, and we now have allies who are ready to stand with us and push for real change.

But now, we need to take the next step together.

When 6-year-old Darius MacDougall went missing near Island Lake Campground by the busy Crowsnest Highway, no Amber Alert was issued because Canada’s strict criteria weren’t fully met. That is the flaw we are fighting to change.

The U.S. gives police the discretion to issue Amber Alerts immediately in high-risk situations — and thousands of lives have been saved because of it. Canada must do the same.

Subject: Urgent Need for Amber Alert Reform – Support Darius’s Law

Dear [MP’s Name],

I am writing to you today as a concerned citizen, parent, and community member to urge you to support Darius’s Law — a much-needed reform to Canada’s Amber Alert system.

As you may know, 6-year-old Darius MacDougall went missing near Island Lake Campground, just steps from the busy Crowsnest Highway. Despite the obvious risk and the tireless efforts of RCMP and Search and Rescue, no Amber Alert was issued because the strict criteria were not fully met.

This case has highlighted a dangerous gap in our system: if there is no eyewitness abduction, even when a child disappears near a major highway or under high-risk circumstances, an Amber Alert cannot be activated. This leaves families and communities waiting helplessly while every passing hour reduces the chance of finding a child safe.

The United States already allows law enforcement the discretion to issue Amber Alerts in urgent, high-risk cases, even if not all criteria are formally met. That discretion has saved thousands of lives. Canada must do the same.

Darius’s Law would give police in Canada the ability to act immediately when a child is in danger, rather than being bound by red tape. This reform would save lives, restore public confidence, and ensure no other family has to face the same devastating questions of “what if.”

I am calling on you, as my elected representative, to stand up for children and families by supporting this reform. Please make Amber Alert discretion a priority in Parliament and work with your colleagues to ensure our laws protect our most vulnerable.

Thank you for your time and leadership on this urgent matter.

Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
[Your Address]
[Your City, Province, Postal Code]

Every email makes a difference. Together, we can push for reform and make sure no family ever has to face this kind of heartbreak again.

Thank you for adding your voice!

With gratitude,
Ronnie DeGagne
