Hello everyone, Thank you to all who signed our petition affirming that nightlife spaces should remain safe spaces free from the normalization or glamorization of violence. Our petition grew to having more than 2,600 supporters. Rather than to respond to any of our direct communications, the promoter decided to make a statement yesterday in a local LA rag. He begins his statement with, "This week I lost something precious to me. Sex Cells, the monthly DJ night I have been booking with Spaceland and has taken place at the Echo and Echoplex since January, was canceled after a coordinated campaign by keyboard warriors who made it a mission to get us shut down." This feels intentionally misleading and manipulative. No one is a victim here. Not them. Not us. As has been stated more than once on this page and in communications directly with the promoter, we never intended to have the party canceled. The mission of the petition was to send a message that Los Angeles does not support the normalization of violence associated with booking a famous murderer to host a "halloween monster" party. Our supporters sent messages to the promoter multiple times, and he chose to ignore us. Had he chosen to engage in a dialogue with us, perhaps this campaign would not have needed to grow so large that it became a burden on his venue. We did not get the party canceled. Inaction got the party canceled. They will be hosting a party this evening at a different location with a maximum capacity of 210. According to the article published yesterday, the promoter has decided to remain unclear as to whether Michael Alig will still attend this party. Some are taking to the internet to express their outrage over this. I say we move on. Let them have their party, and invite whoever they want. We made a statement. We sent a clear message. Our message was heard. Time to move on. Everyone have a safe weekend.
