Hi Friends, I received a phone call yesterday from Mitchell Frank, owner of Spaceland Presents, which owns The Echo. He informed me that the venue / company made the official call to pull the event. He could not possibly have been more respectful and kind. He admitted that he and the rest of the team at the venue were not aware of Michael Alig's dark and reprehensible backstory, and that perhaps they should have done more research. He also assured me that the company would be taking steps to up its game in terms of due diligence of talent booked for future events, including lease events such as Sex Cells. There is no doubt in my mind that Mitchell and his team absolutely get the message we have been broadcasting here. I commend Spaceland Presents for their response to our messages, and commend all of you for your emails and phone calls to their company. You made the difference. A few folks associated with the event have posted online that Sex Cells is currently seeking a new location for its Halloween party, and that details will soon be announced. There has not been a public acknowledgment of our petition, or a clear statement as to whether Michael Alig will be in attendance at the new venue. I will be very clear: We -never- intended to have this event canceled. We never meant to ruin anyone's fun, or to dismantle the hard work the promoters, hosts, DJs, and performers have put into creating this party. We began by attempting a direct dialogue with the promoters, and attempts were made to silence us. We banded together with a peaceful mission of rejecting the normalization of violence/murder in our nightlife spaces. The petition's following increased exponentially over the last four days only because it represents shared views of the precious nature of life. I, and I believe most of us, truly hope Sex Cells / Lethal Amounts is able to secure a new venue for its party next Friday, and that the promoter will make a firm statement acknowledging our very real concerns. I hope the promoter will assure all who've signed this petition that Michael Alig will not be in attendance at the revised event. And in the end, I truly hope the party is a great time for everyone who chooses to go, and a huge success for the promoters. Los Angeles is an amazing city. Angelenos are an amazing people. I'm proud to live here, and to live here with all of you fantastic creatures. Thank you again to everyone for your commitment to maintaining nightlife spaces as safe spaces dedicated to the celebration of the fleeting nature of life. You are all beautiful, Patrick Waechter
