Australia's Liquor Retail and Hospitality Sector Must Boycott Russian Vodka

The issue

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has appalled the world.

The time has come for a boycott of Russian vodka by our major liquor retailers - none more so than Dan Murphy's.

Dan Murphy's dominates liquor retail. With that dominance comes responsibility.

Others including BWS, Liquorland, Cellarbrations, Vintage Cellars, Bottle-O, First Choice and more will follow along with supermarkets Coles, Woolworths and Aldi.

Of course they have the choice to make the ethical decision now.

Less than 10 people across Australia have the power to make this decision and take a stand. In reality the decision is simple, cheap and will prove popular. (They should have thought of this on their own.)

Russian vodka boycotts are springing up across Canada and the US - many by government decree. Car makers are pulling out of Russia, national sports teams are cancelling matches against Russia and the global banking network has cut Russia off. Can we simply stop selling their hooch?

We've all been inspired by the leadership of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. We need the leaders of our liquor stores to show a little courage of their own. It's not hard, it's not complicated. Show us what you and your brands stand for.

This boycott won't end the war but it will send a signal of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Anyway - what could be less cool than the spirit of Russian right now?

We call the campaign: #PutinItAway - a silly pun for a serious time.

It might also hit a Russian oligarch in their hip poocket so sign up and share. And then raise a toast to Ukraine - with a non-Russian beverage of course.
