The restrictions we have on our beautiful lost or taken babies resting place in Hawkinge
The Issue
I am making this petition for my beautiful Baby Ava and all of those before her, and all of those that sadly will no doubt follow due to the NHS and other unavoidable deaths.
I did not have the easiest of pregnancies with Ava. As from 17 weeks pregnant in February, I could not move my head an inch without my world spinning and on the constant urge of fainting. I was on my floor for 8 weeks straight as every move I would make it felt like the world was swallowing me up. I ended up having horrific hallucinations as my blood sugars were so low, I thought I was dying. After many pointless trips to A&E , where they would send me home because they didn’t know what was wrong with me and didn’t look into if further, I ended up getting admitted into hospital on the 20th April and got diagnosed with Ménière’s Disease.
In May alone I had 76 violent attacks, which my beautiful daughter was also going through. At the time I was also having two weekly scans on Ava as she was constantly growing ( previous scans had shown a lemon shaped head and I was told not to worry as it’s because I have a small head-which I don’t). I have since done further research and a lemon shaped head is an indication for Spina bifida. The growth scans continued because Avas belly was abnormally big for the gestation. She weighed 7.15 at 35+6 weeks. I was given a diabetes check as they thought it could be gestational diabetes, first I had the glucose drink. My diabetes levels came back normal but as Ava was still growing they then said I needed to have a 7 day finger prick test which I done. My diabetes levels still came back normal. I was not allowed a c-section as I “had given birth naturally before”.
Long story short, I also caught covid which meant my sweep and induction got cancelled even though I was in the covid ward on the 21st July, I got told my sweep had been cancelled as I have covid and to make my own way back home. It was 10:30 at night, I was 9 months pregnant, Ménière’s disease, suspected blood clots and severe belly pains. And I got sent home to deal with it myself. I gave birth to Ava two days later on the 23rd July at home at 39+1 weeks and Ava weighed 9.2lbs. My baby girl would be with me now if it wasn’t for the paramedics.
Ava had Shoulder Dystocia and the paramedics did not know what they was doing, even after I told them she was stuck. My mum videoed the whole birth and one of the paramedics kept asking her how long she had been filming. ‘2minutes, 5minutes, 7minutes, 10 minutes, 13 minutes.’ But now we know that 7 minutes is the cut off point for a baby making it out alive if they are stuck. He also wanted me to walk down the stairs while Avas head was out and when her head was out, the same paramedic asked if she was breach.
It took 20 minutes before critical care arrived and once he was there, he got Ava out in 2 minutes.
Ava lost her life. And also found out when she was born that she had spina bifida, which no one picked up.
Ava is now buried up Hawkinge Cemetery in the baby garden, except she has been put in the ‘new plot’ which consists of concrete channels where the headstones will be.
The reason I am writing this petition is because Ava is not allowed a fence, nor is she allowed any ornaments placed ontop of her. Everything has to be placed on the concrete slabs, so it makes it easier for the gardeners. How is this right?
There are many other babies up Hawkinge, which have fences. I have spoken with families and they was told to take their fences down, they refused and have been able to keep their babies gardens looking beautiful.
I have been told by the Folkestone Council to have Avas fence removed by the 10th December. If not then they will remove it themselves.
I would appreciate as many people as possible to stand with me and show that this isn’t acceptable behaviour towards a life that has been taken through no fault of her own.
Avas family and friends should have every right to grieve and respect her in the ways we wish.
