Donald M. Klawes – Adopted multiple rescued rabbits that had survived abuse, neglect and abandonment and were given a new start in life. According to Klawes statement to the Police - he sadistically tortured and killed them. He continued to search for more rabbits (victims).
Evidence shows multiple rabbits were killed by "inhumane, brutal and sadistic means. Knowles was only charged with 3 Felonies; the other rabbits bodies were too decomposed to determine cause of death. The way the rabbits were tortured and killed were not released due to being so gruesome.
Officers saw multiple shallow graves in the backyard. Several decomposing rabbit carcasses were found in them. Court records filed in Columbia County show Donald M. Klawes admitted to killing several rabbits in the last few months.
Donald M. Klawes, age 32, of Portage was arrested on multiple counts of Mistreatment of Animals-Causing Death. Klawes bailed out at $500.00 and is expected back in court for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 1.
We the petitioners respectfully demand this case goes to trial with no allowance of a plea deal and that Donald M. Klawes is charged to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law with Class I felony charges for each rabbit brutally tortured and killed. It is incredibly appalling and concerning this man bailed out at $500.00 when he is in need of psychological help and/or imprisonment.
Stat. § 939.50, a Class I felony is punishable by up to 3 ½ years in state prison, fines up to $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine
Wisconsin State Legislature
CHAPTER 951
CRIMES AGAINST ANIMALS
Definitions. In this chapter:
951.01(1) “Animal" includes every living:
(2) “Cruel" means causing unnecessary and excessive pain or suffering or unjustifiable injury or death.
951.02 Mistreating animals. No person may treat any animal, whether belonging to the person or another, in a cruel manner.
951.18 Penalties.
Any person who intentionally violates s. 951.02, resulting in the mutilation, disfigurement or death of an animal, is guilty of a Class I felony.
Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter, or veterinary care or maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an animal.
The complaint also states, "Klawes explained to Detective Warning that the voices tell Klawes to make people suffer." Officer Oetzman reports the roommate handed him guns, ammunition and knives.
It is a well documented fact that serial killers start out with torturing and killing animals. Donald M. Klawes crimes against animals appear to make him a danger to more helpless animals and society.
