Thanks to everyone who's signed and shared so far. I put the petition on Reddit (r/Victoria) and it stirred up real counter statements, which is honestly what I was hoping for. A couple of the exchanges are worth sharing.
Someone said tax cuts only help the wealthy. I pushed back. PST is one of the most regressive taxes we have. The person replacing a dead fridge pays the same 7% as a millionaire, and lower income families spend way more of what they earn on taxable goods. A PST cut is a working class tax cut, no matter how politicians frame it. And the expansion doesn't touch the big corporations with in-house accountants. It hits the plumber paying an outside bookkeeper, who then passes it on to you.
Someone else raised the $13 billion deficit. Fair. But we hit $13 billion WITH all these new taxes, so more revenue clearly isn't the fix. BC is taking a bigger tariff hit than almost any province and businesses are pulling back. The danger right now is a slowdown. And yes, a cut this size means real spending discipline, not more borrowing. I said that too.
