Classic cars are a part of our heritage. What makes up part of a classic/historical cars character and originality is its number plate. Other states in Australia and the world offer the ability to express individual style on their respective club permit schemes, so why cant “Victoria the place to be” allow it too?

If VicRoads can get rid of registration labels surely the number plate scanning technology used by police can also be used to distinguish the type of registration the car is under regardless of the number plate. Or perhaps a sticker on the number plate similar to LPG or hybrid labels or even a window sticker like the system in the USA. 

It would benefit VicRoads by increased personalised plates sales and would also mean that classic cars could use the original plates that they came out with fitted to the car since new. Unfortunately many people with personalised plates have to hang them in the shed collecting dust or place inside the windshield at car shows. Just as people express their love for their pets, car enthusiasts love to add the finishing touch to  their vehicles with a number plate of their choice. It makes no sense to not allow this; car enthusiasts make up the majority of the club permit scheme vehicles in Victoria and the time to make this happen is in 2022. We have the technology at our disposal to fix the systems in place.

The time for change is now, VicRoads and Custom plates please listen to what the people have been asking for and make this happen. We have only been asking for several years! Fellow Victorians/car enthusiasts please sign the petition and be heard!
