Making changes to an existing system can be disruptive and costly. Rather than overhaul the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme I propose we work with it. After some thought I figured the easiest way to make this happen is to have a Club Permit Scheme (CPS) tag affixed to our number plate of choice; just like the LPG tag that can be riveted to an existing number plate. As you can see from the photo this is already being implemented in Florida, USA.
This, as well as the club permit window sticker, is an easy identifier for the authorities at a glance and should be sufficient; not to mention that cars 25 years and older are far and few between and standout on the road. Secondly, the state of the art plate scanning technology that Victoria Police has should able to differentiate registration types.
Given there are so many plate styles in the state of Victoria this is the most logical and simple solution. We certainly don’t want to abolish the club permit plate entirely as this would not be realistic and some people will be happy with the status quo. Victoria already has the best number plate options under custom plates, this would be the icing on the cake giving the consumer their individual choice.
One of the so called experts in the industry shared the post below in relation to this petition which gives some more colour to this this problem and why it has been entangled in red tape.
“The club permit scheme in Victoria has always been a stand alone system. It is not 100% linked to the rest of the registration system. If the system doesn't support the use of plates other than the permit plates, then no amount of petitioning is going to change things. Don't assume you can make changes happen simply by making a noise about it.“
Unfortunately this individual believes were are locked out and we all should just accept things as they are because it is all too hard. If we all had this attitude nothing would ever change. I encourage you all to make as much noise as possible as it is the squeaky wheel that gets oiled. Continue to share this petition and ask for the option of custom plates under the club permit scheme.
Vicroads and Custom Plates you are not separate entities, you may not be 100% linked although from a consumers point of view you are the same, time to unite and allow Victorians the right to choose their number plate under the club permit scheme - perhaps add this to your discussion as the next board meeting? How can Custom Plates and VicRoads work with each other? How can the systems be improved? What measures have to be put in place? Sweeping this issue under the carpet will not make it go away - with over 1500 supporters and growing this needs to be addressed.
Feel free to reach out and let me know your thoughts.
All the best,
Carshi
