Curtin University is preparing to let a significant number of teaching contracts expire at the end of the year, saying its budget has been affected by Western Australia's economic slowdown.

Curtin intends to replace 100-150 teaching staff with those on research contracts in an effort to reduce costs, but we believe this will put unfair work strains on personnel and reduce the quality of the education at the university.

Some highly esteemed and committed staff members will be leaving due to funding cuts, and we're calling on Curtin Students to demand our teachers be reinstated, and to tell the University to find it's budget savings somewhere that won't have such a negative impact on our staff, and our education.
