Curb Reckless Driving in Regal Cinemas Parking Lots, Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn

The Issue

I live very close to the Regal Cinema in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. My peace and quiet are constantly disrupted by reckless driving in the cinema's parking lots. Day and night, groups of young people take over the parking lot to drive recklessly, perform screeching donuts, blast music and hang out. The noise from revving engines and squealing tires is not only disturbing but also dangerous.  This noise is so pervasive that people I know that live across the creek in Gerritsen Beach, some more than two miles away are disturbed.

At times there are upwards of twenty or more cars participating in this disruptive behavior that often continues into the early morning hours. My sleep has been interrupted countless times due to this disturbance which sometimes lasts until 2 or 3 am.

This is not just a nuisance; it's a threat to public safety. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reckless driving accounts for 33% of all deaths in motor vehicle crashes annually nationwide.

We cannot wait until a tragic accident happens before we act. We need immediate action from local law enforcement agencies and city officials to curb this dangerous behavior by increasing patrols around these areas during peak hours, implementing stricter penalties for violators, and holding Regal Cinemas responsible for disturbance to the surrounding neighborhoods from the lawless activity and noise emanating from their property for years on end.

I urge you all - residents of Gerritsen Beach - let's stand together against reckless driving that threatens our peace and safety! Please sign this petition urging local authorities to take immediate action against out-of-control car culture at Regal Cinema Parking Lots.
