More info and RSVP at: https://www.meetup.com/MeadowLarkOpenSpace/events/
Featuring some of the most scenic and diverse wetlands and meadow habitat in Colorado, this gem of an open space runs between Table Mesa and Broadway.
And - thank you so much for your support at this week's Boulder Planning Board hearing by attending in person and sending emails. The board members specifically mentioned receiving many emails.
With the help of your voices, we are grateful for the Board's recommendation requesting City Council consider the community developed Upstream Solution - the best option to help protect Boulder neighborhoods and the adjacent State Natural Areas from devastating floods.
Now we urgently need your help this Tuesday eve as City Council is poised to make a final decision on whether the City of Boulder will protect proposed CU buildings or Boulder neighborhoods from life threatening floods.
Can you join us this Tues Aug 7, 6pm to help protect Boulder communities and natural areas?
Wear a green shirt or hat and join us at Boulder City Council Chambers - being there is enough to make your voice heard! Or you can also share your thoughts with council at the session if you would like to.
1) First and very importantly, can you take one minute to copy and email the quick note below to City Council right away?
- a helpful addition is to add a personal sentence on why you care -

Hon. Boulder City Council Member,
Please act quickly to implement flood protection at the proposed Meadowlark Open Space (CU South) using the Upstream and Variant 1 Options. This is the safest option for downstream Boulder neighborhoods that were devastated by the 2013 flood.
New CU apartments should not be more important than the lives of Boulder citizens.
Variant 2 and allowing CU to fill in wetlands in the NW corner of the property maximizes buildable land for CU but threaten the lives and homes of many Boulder communities including Frazier Meadows.
Variant 2 also threatens to cover with sludge the South Boulder Creek state natural area that features some of Colorado’s most important wet-meadow habitat along with endangered wildlife species.
Two large cottonwood trees wedged in the flow restricted Variant 2 drainage is all it would take for massive downstream flooding of Boulder to occur.
The cost effective Upstream and Variant 1 option will provide the highest amount of flood water detention and highest level of safety for Boulder Communities and protect a natural area of critical importance.
This option will also allow the NW corner wetlands to help hold back flood waters which will further ensure the safety of Boulder communities as storms grow stronger every year.
Thank you,
(add your name here)

2) And if you can - please join us at the Tues Aug 7, 2018 at 6pm at City Council to help save the Meadowlarks and protect Boulder from flooding! Together we can create a win for the people of Boulder and this wild and beautiful space. Instead of building on open space, CU can build on their existing parking lots!
Thanks so much for being part of this community effort and bring a friend!
With deep regards and appreciation,
Ken
