CTA: SAVE CHILDREN'S LIVES! CALL FOR A CEASEFIRE AND THE END OF ILLEGAL ISRAELI OCCUPATION

The Issue

Dear President Goldberg, Vice President Littman, Secretary-Treasurer Jones and Members of the Board of Directors,

California educators are urging CTA leadership to join international calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the end of illegal Israeli occupation.

Since 10/7/23, Israel has killed over 11,400 Palestinians. More than 4,000 of them were children. Schools and hospitals where thousands are sheltering are being targeted by the Israeli military. This indiscriminate bombing of civilians is a war crime.

47.3% of the population in Gaza is under the age of 18 and education has remained a top priority there. Over 95% of children ages 6-12 are enrolled in school. However, on 11/6/23, the Ministry of Education had to suspend the school year due to the continued attacks on innocent civilians.

As educators, we have a responsibility to advocate for and protect children worldwide. We cannot stand by while thousands are being murdered and claim to care about humans rights and social justice. What message are we sending to our students if we don't stand up against this brutality?

It is our responsibility to use our political power to rise up against this injustice. Let's pressure our representatives to stop supporting Israel's assault on Palestinians.

Act now and stand on the right side of history!
