The province's transportation agency, Metrolinx, has announced plans to construct a 3-storey, 1.6km rail overpass for GO trains through the middle of Toronto's Davenport neighbourhood. This is to eliminate the rail crossing at the Davenport Diamond, where the CP Rail tracks intersect with the Barrie GO Line. This overpass will extend from north of Dupont all the way to Bloor and will run directly beside homes, condos and several parks. This raises serious concerns with regard to safety, diesel pollution, excessive noise and vibration, the loss of old growth trees in our parks, and quality of life for the area's residents.

There are better solutions than an overpass, including simply going under, rather than over the rail intersection. We are a group of residents who support smart transit growth. Dropping a Gardiner for GO Trains into the middle of a residential neighbourhood is not the best way to achieve this. Davenport deserves better.

We the undersigned are opposed to Metrolinx building an overpass for trains through our residential neighbourhood. We are asking Metrolinx and other decision-makers at the Provincial and City level to consider other options, and to work together with the community on a plan that satisfies the needs of the community as well as Metrolinx.
