It has just been confirmed that a pair of mother and calf humpback whales have been caught entangled in shark nets at Bokarina Beach on the Sunshine Coast. The Marine Animal Rescue Team is getting there from Noosa to support the Department of Fisheries and figure out the best way to rescue the animals. Our politicians need to be accountable for these entanglements.

Can you tweet at the Federal Minister for Environment, Tanya Plibersek and the Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk asking them to get #NetsOutNow?

Tanya Plibersek, has the power to close the loophole in Australian legislation, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 that allows the shark culling programs to exist in NSW and QLD. How many entanglements and deaths will it take to get some action from our leaders?

State Premiers and Environment Ministers are the key stakeholders who have the power to make change and save lives. We need to remind them how many of us care about the beautiful animals - the endangered sharks, turtles, dolphins, whales. We can protect them from brutal deaths.

Once we know more about the status of the mother and calf, we will let you know. Thank you for all your support.
