Criminalize Online Harassment and Doxxing to Protect Individuals

Criminalize Online Harassment and Doxxing to Protect Individuals
The Issue
We are a group of individuals who have been personally affected by online harassment and doxxing. One of us, a close friend, was doxxed and lived in constant fear for her children's safety. We have been relentlessly harassed, defamed on a daily basis, causing significant health problems both mentally and physically. Despite reaching out to law enforcement agencies, we were told that such actions fall under the umbrella of freedom of speech.
However, we believe that there is a line between freedom of speech and harmful actions like harassment or doxxing. When this line is crossed it should be considered as criminal offense. According to the Cyberbullying Research Center (2017), about 34% of students report experiencing cyberbullying during their lifetime which clearly shows the magnitude of this issue.
We call upon lawmakers to recognize online harassment and doxxing as serious offenses with real-world consequences. It's time for our legal system to catch up with technology; laws need updating so they can adequately protect victims from these modern forms of abuse.
By signing this petition you are supporting our call for change - let's make online spaces safer for everyone by making online harassment and doxxing criminal offenses!
