Cricket is one of the most popular and accessible sports in South West London, yet public cricket net facilities in Wandsworth are extremely limited.

There are only two public net sites in the entire borough, leaving a large area — including Tooting, Balham and Wandsworth Common — without any accessible facilities. By comparison, neighbouring London Borough of Lambeth provides multiple well-used net locations.

At the same time:

• Local cricket pitches are heavily used throughout the summer
• The area has a large and growing cricket-playing community, particularly in and around Tooting
• The England and Wales Cricket Board is actively promoting greater access and diversity in grassroots cricket

We are proposing a new public cricket net facility on Tooting Common to address this clear gap in provision and support grassroots sport in the borough.

Wandsworth Council has indicated it is open to exploring this, but needs to understand the level of demand.
