The Issue

Make Crestwood Boulevard Safer to Cross

Crestwood Boulevard is a four-lane, high-speed highway that cuts through Birmingham’s Crestwood North and Crestwood South neighborhoods. The boulevard runs approximately 6,500 feet through these neighborhoods, yet provides only one signalized crossing connecting the north and south sides. Because the pedestrian tunnel at 7th Avenue South is closed, residents who want to cross Crestwood Boulevard safely have to make a substantial detour to reach a signalized crossing, making it much more difficult to access local businesses and neighborhood facilities.

Crestwood Crossings aims to change that.

We believe residents should be able to safely and conveniently reach their neighborhood park, local businesses, and neighbors without having to make a lengthy detour. Our goal is to advocate for a safe, accessible, and dignified pedestrian crossing that strengthens the connection between Crestwood North and Crestwood South.

We are calling for this crossing at Crestwood Boulevard and 7th Avenue South, where a new signalized intersection or other appropriate signal-controlled crossing could provide a safer connection between the two neighborhoods.

We ask Birmingham residents, local businesses, and everyone who cares about safe, connected neighborhoods to sign this petition in support of a safer crossing, accessible pedestrian signals, adequate crossing time, and the sidewalks and other improvements needed to make the crossing usable for everyone.

Safe streets connect communities. Thank you for supporting Crestwood Crossings!
