In the last 10 years, I have personally been in three vehicle accidents. None were due to anything I was doing wrong. Each incident has caused immense physical, mental, and financial distress to our family. Time and time again, the offender faces no real consequences other than a small fine. When operating a vehicle, there needs to be stricter laws to help protect citizens especially in cases with repeat offenders.

Adults choosing to make reckless decisions and endanger the lives around them should be treated as such. It is not an accident to run a stop sign, plow into the back of someone, run into a house, drink and drive, etc. How do we teach our future generations better if we don't do better and expect better of ourselves as adults.

Negligent driving is a serious issue that endangers lives every day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving alone claimed 3,142 lives in 2019. This statistic highlights the urgent need for more stringent penalties for those who operate vehicles negligently.

We must hold drivers accountable for their actions on the road by implementing harsher punishments such as higher fines, mandatory driving courses, and even license suspensions for repeat offenders.
