Create pathways on Balaclava Ave & Waterloo Ave, adjacent to Woy Woy South Public School
The issue
UPDATE: This petition has been update. It now seeks footpaths on both Balaclava Avenue and Waterloo Avenue. Both Roads lack pathways heaing East, to connect to Trafalgar Avenue. The motivation to expand the petition has come from Council, who have alleged that the School has an "extensive network" of pathways around it, which is clearly untrue.
So, to be clear, we are seeking a footpath from the NE corner of the WWSPS on Balaclava heading east AND we are seeking a footpath from the SE corner of the WWSPS on Waterloo heading east.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a parent whose child will start Kindergarten in 2026 at Woy Woy South Primary School, I am deeply concerned about the safety of getting to and from school. Our family, like many others in our community, plans to walk to school. However, the lack of a designated pathway on Balaclava Street from the school (Wentworth Ave intersection) to Commonwealth Ave (via Trafalgar Ave) is a problem. This street houses the pedestrian gate to the primary school, but without a proper walkway, children and families are left to navigate between the road and the many cars parked on the verge. With no car parking for parents, the verge parking is jammed at drop off and pick up.
The current situation poses significant safety risks. Young children, especially those in prams, along with their parents, frequently have to dodge the dangers of passing traffic just to get home.
Providing safe pedestrian pathways not only enhances safety but encourages healthier lifestyles and reduces traffic congestion. It will also benefit mobility scooter and wheelchair users.
By constructing 400m of pathway along Balaclava Avenue, we can ensure a safe and secure route for hundreds of children and their families. This improvement would not only benefit those attending the school but also improve the overall safety and connectivity for the entire community. We call upon the Central Coast Council to prioritise the construction of this much-needed pathway.
Please sign this petition to urge the Central Coast Council to act swiftly in implementing a solution that guarantees the safety of our children and enhances our community's well-being.
