Create Mary's Law to protect seniors from neglect and abuse
The Issue
Not everyone has your best interest at heart and unfortunately more often than not it might be some of your children as well, especially if you choose the wrong ones to be your caretaker.. .
My mother's name was Mary Ellen, she was 93 years old her life was tragically cut short due to rampant abuse and neglect. Despite our continuous efforts to report the issues she was facing, the system that was supposed to safeguard her failed.
Mary's Law is a critical initiative aimed at providing much-needed protection and accountability for seniors who are victims of gross neglect and abuse. While there are agencies that exist specifically to protect the rights of seniors, yet far too often these very agencies fall short in their duties pertaining to their POA and Physical Custodial Caregivers that maybe Family members. This results in exposing vulnerable seniors to imminent danger and sometimes death if their forced to remain under the care of unscrupulous individuals who exploit or neglect them without conscience - needless to say these are the same individuals who supposedly have their best interests at heart. When in fact they're literally taking advantage of those who have become most vulnerable. And it's quite obvious their actions are strictly for self profitable gain. Not only that the Social Security Administration should also review their reporting laws of abuse and fraud by allowing people with substantial verifiable proof without that person's social security number to be able to report these rampant atrocities especially when it involves the Beneficiaries untimely unnatural death due to critical mitigating circumstances that results in that person being hospitalized and Medical evidence of gross neglect.
It's time to hold these agencies accountable. With Mary's Law, we propose that these authorities be mandated to intervene decisively when abuse or neglect is reported. This law would ensure immediate investigation into the wellbeing of the senior, with power to remove at-risk individuals from abusive environments promptly and establish a review of the practices of these agencies to prevent future failures.
The statistics are sobering: countless seniors suffer in silence, subjected to abuse or neglect by caregivers or within care facilities. Numerous reports of abuse go unchecked, leaving these vulnerable individuals to fend for themselves in hostile environments. Creating accountability within the agencies responsible for their protection is not just a moral imperative, it's a societal necessity.
By demanding action, we can ensure that no senior citizen has to endure the suffering that Mary did. We need stringent policies that prioritize the health and safety of seniors, giving them the voice and justice they deserve.
Please join us in urging lawmakers to create and enforce Mary's Law. Stand with us in honoring Mary Ellen by ensuring that her tragedy doesn't befall others. Sign this petition to call for immediate action to protect our seniors and hold accountable those who have failed them.
